Character Limits in ReachMyTeach

Modified on Mon, 4 May at 9:58 AM

Sharing clear, complete information with families is essential. We know character limits can make that challenging, especially when messages need to reach families in multiple languages.

Why limits vary

Character limits depend on both the delivery method and the language:

  • Some languages, like Arabic, use characters that take up more space
  • Others, like Portuguese, may fit more within the same limit

Because of this, the same message can look different across languages.

How ReachMyTeach handles character limits

We are designed to help you send full messages without unnecessary splitting:

  • We allow longer messages than most platforms
  • If a message is getting long, you will see a warning

  • You can preview how each family will receive it, including translations

“Read more” for longer messages

When a message is too long for a single text:

  • A “Read more” link is added automatically

  • Families can click to see the full message with no login required. This is especially helpful for urgent school updates like schedule changes or emergencies.
  • Multilingual families will see the full message in English and their preferred language.

Document limits

  • Attachments (PDFs sent in messages):
    • Translated up to 7,000 characters
    • A yellow exclamation mark means the document is too large to translate
  • Document Delivery module:
    • No character limits for documents
