Issue with Translation

Sometimes you may receive a message that is not translated. This can happen for a few reasons:

  • The message was written using a mix of English and another language. When multiple languages are combined in a single message, the translator may not be able to reliably identify which language to translate from.

  • The message includes spelling errors, informal writing, slang, or abbreviations that make it difficult for the automatic translator to interpret. For example, a Spanish speaker might write “q” or “k” instead of “que,” or use shorthand, texting-style language, or phonetic spellings. In these cases, the system may not be able to generate an accurate translation.

  • The student or guardian’s preferred language is set to English in ReachMyTeach. If a family writes in another language but their language preference in the system is English, the message will not be translated. Updating the contact’s language preference will resolve this.
