Customizing Messages

Attendance Nudges support both short and long message customization.

Configure the Intro Message

Location:
Nudge → Intro Message

The Intro Message is the SMS/email recipients receive first.

Available Message Types

  • Positive message
  • Needs improvement message

Blurb Cutoff

The cutoff determines which message version is shown based on absence count.

Available Variables

You can personalize messages using variables such as:

  • [student.firstname]
  • [student.monthAbsences]
  • [student.totalAbsences]
  • [monthName]
  • [school.contactEmail]
  • [school.contactPhone]

Template Options

  • Use Default
  • Use Last Message
  • Reset Messages

Configure the Report Message

Location:
Nudge → Report Message

The Report Message is the detailed attendance page shown after clicking the link in the Intro Message.

Statement Levels

You can configure four attendance categories:

  • Good
  • Slight Concern
  • Warning
  • Critical

Attendance Cutoffs

Three cutoff values determine which statement appears for a student.

Notes

  • Changes auto-save automatically
  • You can also click Save Report Messages for confirmation
  • Variable tokens may also be used in report statements

Verify Before Sending

Recommended checklist:

  1. Open the Preview tab
  2. Review sample student rows
  3. Test the report preview links
  4. Use Next Student in Live Preview to test different attendance levels
  5. Confirm:
    • Recipient types
    • Email/text channels
    • School or district scope
    • Exclusion thresholds

Sending Attendance Nudges

Location:
Nudge → Send

Sending Steps

  1. Select recipients
  2. Optionally exclude specific students
  3. Choose recipient types:
    • Students
    • Guardians
  4. Choose delivery methods:
    • Email
    • Text
  5. Send immediately or schedule for later

After Sending

  • Large sends may take several minutes
  • Status updates refresh automatically

Reviewing Nudge Results

Location:
Nudge → Stats

The Stats tab provides visibility into delivery and engagement.

Sent Statistics

The Sent section shows:

  • Students who received nudges
  • View counts
  • Earliest view timestamps

Important Note About View Counts

A low viewed percentage does not necessarily indicate low delivery.

Many families may:

  • Read the Intro Message only
  • Not click the More/report link

This means:

  • Delivery may still be successful
  • Engagement may simply occur outside the linked report page

Not Sent Statistics

The Not Sent section shows students who were excluded from sending.

Possible reasons include:

  • Exclusion threshold
  • Missing federal absence-rate data
  • Missing contact information
  • Manual exclusions
  • Recipient/channel settings
